The position is a permanent full-time employment. A probationary period of 6 months will apply. Start date according to agreement.

Nationalmuseum is a government agency with approximately 160 employees tasked with promoting art, art interest, and art science. The museum's collections include paintings, sculptures, drawings, and graphics from the 16th century to the turn of the 20th century, while the collections of applied arts and design, as well as portrait art, extend to the present day.

The collections are displayed in the main building at Blasieholmen, Stockholm, and at about 20 other locations, including Gripsholm Castle, Läckö Castle, Nationalmuseum Jamtli in Östersund, and Gustavsberg Porcelain Museum. Nationalmuseum also conducts exhibition, program, research, and publication activities as well as lending activities. YOUR TASKS

You will work with the conservation of older art on paper within Nationalmuseum's drawing and graphic collection. You will participate in planning and take part in exhibition work as well as the preparation of loans and acquisitions, where mounting and framing of objects is part of the conservation work. You will apply your knowledge and understanding of various treatment options and the underlying ethical considerations when planning and implementing both active and preventive conservation measures. You will register conservation documentation and other relevant information in the collection management database and damage mapping tool. The position is located in the Conservation Unit, which is part of the Preservation and Photography Department.

Qualifications:

  • You have a master's or bachelor's degree from a university or college in paper conservation.
  • You have at least three years of work experience as a conservator in the field after completing your education.
  • You have documented knowledge of the conservation of art on paper before the 20th century.
  • You have documented experience of working with conservation documentation, exhibition work, and loans.
  • You have experience in preventive conservation and principles of good collection management.
  • You have experience in mounting and framing art on paper.
  • You have good language skills in Swedish.

Meritorious:

  • You have some experience working with collection databases, especially MuseumPlus.
  • You have a B driver's license.
  • It is also meritorious if you already have knowledge of Nationalmuseum's collections.

The tasks may be physically demanding, and therefore it is important to understand ergonomics to avoid injuries. Work in other locations may occur, which involves travel and overnight stays.
